AGCO Begins Early Search for New CEO

AGCO's Board of Directors has announced they are beginning a search for a new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian gambling regulator. This is as they prepare for the exit of Tom Mungham, who announced he would be retiring at the close of the year.

Mungham recently declared he would vacate his post as the leader of the AGCO, thus concluding his three-decade-long stint as a public official in several departments in Ontario. He has acted in several roles for the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario before being chosen as the Registrar and CEO in 2020. Mungham has served as the Director of Licensing and Registration and Chief Operating Officer. 

During his time in office, he guided and supervised several regulatory modifications in Ontario, including the advancement of land-based casinos, legalizing OLG lotteries, and others. 

He was also responsible for creating and managing the regulatory framework for Ontario's new online gaming sector. Currently, there are tens of legal online casinos and sportsbooks in Canada ever since the market was launched in April 2022.

Lalit Aggarwal, AGCO's Board of Directors Chair, has declared that Mungham will keep his current position while the Board searches for someone to take his place. The Chair noted that Tom had dedicated more than 30 years of his life to public service in the province of Ontario. Aggarwal said that Tom Mungham served under the Correctional Services and Solicitor General Ministries and later moved to the OPP.

On their part, the Board of Directors of AGCO expressed their gratitude for Tom Mungham's work and direction during his 17-year stint with the regulator. They thanked him for providing "exceptional leadership" as the agency's mandate grew and modernization was implemented across all regulated sectors.

"We wish him the very best for this next, well-earned chapter," Aggarwal remarked.
